1946 Oldsmobile – The Friendly Face

This original, 1946 Oldsmobile was last time registered in 1965. The color is probably original, could be Pacific Blue (#65C). Looks very complete with the factory installed spotlight.

History

Oldsmobile produced the last pre-war car on February 5, 1942. During World War II, the company produced material for the war effort. It included large-caliber guns, shells and tanks. Civil production resumed on October 15, 1945. Cars offered in 1946 were very similar to the prewar models, just the grille changed. These years were a buyer markets. New cars were scarce. Owners could sell old models for a good price, too.

Later on, Oldsmobile introduced, for the year 1949, the Rocket engine. It used an overhead valve V8 design rather than the flathead "straight-eight".
