1957 Oldsmobile 88 4Dr

The 1957 Oldsmobile 88 4Dr is a full-size car. Olds produced cars named '88' from 1949 until 1999. The 88 series was an image leader for Olds in the early years. They were one of the best performing cars. That's because of its light weight and high-compression V8 'Rocket' engine. From 1950 on it was the division’s top-selling line.

History

For 1957, Olds named the basic 88 'Golden Rocket 88'. This was copied from the 1956 Motorama show car. However, the only badging was an "88" underneath each taillight. The manufacturer also named them 'Super' The Super 88 was a member of the upscale mid-line series of cars. The engine, a Rocket V8 had an increased displacement of 371 cubic inches and 277 hp. Although rare, Olds continued to offer three speed manual transmissions. Most of the cars came with the automatic transmission, as is this one. Oldsmobile also re-worked the styling highlights. The cars have also a distinct rear look: With a three-piece rear window styling on these 1957 Oldsmobiles 88. (Which somewhat limited rear view, however.) The manufacturer also added a safety deep-recessed steering wheel this year.

It also has a 4 Speed Hydramatic transmission. As we can see the engine compartment is very original, with a single 4-barrel carburetor. The engine doesn't start however. Grill is original. All exterior stainless steel trim, badges and emblems are in good shape. The interior panels are original, The seat upholstery is not, but has been redone with a green, non-matching color. A flaw that can easily be fixed. Carpets and headliner are original. The dash is in original state, not cut. Trunk is solid, floor pans and trunk pan are in great condition. Undercarriage is not detailed, but non rusted through anywhere.
