A very nice 1937 Oldsmobile F37 (with a straight six engine). Painted in 'Marlboro Maroon', a GM color from 1967.

History

Oldsmobile produced two body styles in the 1930s, the Series F (straight-6 cylinder) and the longer Series L (straight-8 cylinder). In 1933 the Oldsmobile program appeared on CBS radio for two years. That was a new advertising approach to sell their cars and services.

In 1937, Oldsmobile was a pioneer in introducing a four-speed semi-automatic transmission. They named it the "Automatic Safety Transmission". This transmission has a conventional clutch pedal, which the driver presses before selecting either "low" or "high" range. In "low," the car shifts between first and second gears. In "high," the car shifts among first, third and fourth gears. (In reality, Buick produced this gear.)

At the Auction

The seller mentions, the car has an excellent running flathead 6 engine. 3 speed transmission, stick on the floor. Exhaust and brake system were replaced 10 years ago. He rebuilt the entire front end of the car. Shock absorbers he also rebuilt. The frame of the car looks very solid.

Paint is a '67 Corvette Marlboro Maroon. As a matter of fact, Oldsmobile never used this color on their 1937 cars. But the paint job looks convincing. Unfortunately the interior is completely shot. We can see the wooden seat frame and the springs. If the original patterns are lost, it may need some reserach to do the job right. Also the bumpers need some work, mostly re-chroming. Stainless and other chrome parts are in good shape.
