This rare 1950 Oldsmobile 98 fastback 4dr sedan is a full-size Oldsmobile model from the early 1950's. Olds manufactured cars with the '98' name from 1940 until 1996. The name reflects a “Series 90” fitted with an 8-cylinder 'Rocket' engine. This was one of the last years with the fastback styling.
History
The 1950 Oldsmobile 98 fastback repeated its 1948 precedent of previewing some of next years styling cues for the (shorter wheel base) 88. It was the first Oldsmobile with a bent (wraparound) rear window. Standard equipment included bumper guards, parking lamps, dome light, rubber floor mats, foam rubber seat cushions, chrome interior trim, lined luggage compartment and trunk lid. Deluxe 98 equipment included rear seat armrest, Deluxe electric clock, Deluxe steering wheel and horn button. Also a special door trim and stainless steel wheel trim rings. Upholstery choices were nylon fabric, striped broadcloth or leather.

The VIN tag decodes:
STYLE # 50 3808D-1950 98 Fastback Sedan
BODY # L467-Lansing Body
TRIM # 3- Dark Gray Striped Nylon Pile-Cord With Light Gray Nylon Cloth
PAINT # 19-Ivy Green
This is a very original, unmolested and clean car. A thorough inspection shows that there is nothing wrong or out of place. The only 'change' was a respray of the original paint in the same color: Ivy Green, an Oldsmobile color very common back in the days. Driving, stopping and turning is normal - as one can expect of a car of this age, that is in good shape. The trunk trim is original, as is the engine bay, the engine itself and the upholstery. Verdict: Almost to beautiful to drive!
