1949 Oldsmobile 76 Sedan: Already 1948 Oldsmobile had introduced the new post-war styling named 'Futuramic' to the 'big' body '98' line. 1948 was also the year, the company offered the prewar styled cars for the last time. - It then brought the new styling to its smaller B-bodies in 1949. Wheelbase was now 119.5in. The manufacturer retired the 78 model with the Oldsmobile 88, introduced 1949. It shared its new Futuramic B-body platform with the 76. The difference was the use of the new overhead valve Rocket V8. Because of the new styling, Olds renamed the 76 as the Futuramic 76.
Oldsmobile abandoned the Futuramic tag after only one year. That meant, starting in 1950 the car was simply known as the '76'. Then Olds retired the Series 70 after the 1950 model year. - It offered the 76 styling in the following body styles:
Models:
- Station wagon
- Convertible
- Holiday coupé (a 2dr)
- Club coupé (that was a 2dr)
