The 1947 Oldsmobile 66 fastback is a 'Special'. It was again Oldsmobile's lowest priced style of cars. Special 60s had only six-cylinder engines. (Although Olds offered the eight-cylinder in other years.) Standard tire size was 6.00 x 16in. Technical features included aluminum pistons and a full-pressure lubrication system. In 1946, Oldsmobiles had dual windshield wipers as a standard.
History
In 1947 Oldsmobile offered more models in the low-priced field: That is the Special 60 line, more than in its other two series. The eight-cylinder engine returned to the models. Olds also offered the series 'Special 60' (with inline six engine). And there were again 66 and 68 versions of each body style. Standard equipment included: Spare wheel, safety glass and dual horns.
The standard interior fabric was a tan or grey mixture cloth. Horsepower was now 100 for the Six. A similar GM car, a 1947 Buick Fastback is also on this site. -
Oldsmobile renamed the 66 and 68 to 'Dynamic 66' and 68 the following year.
Oldsmobile equipped this '66' car with the 6 cylinder engine. It also has the Hydramatic transmission. This tranny became first available in 1940. Oldsmobile didn't change much in the Super model line since 1946. - The straight-six (or inline-six) engine is an engine with the cylinders mounted in a straight line. All eight pistons drive a common crankshaft (straight engine). These engines provided extreme reliability und durability.

The car is mechanically in very good shape. Therefore it drives incredibly well. It obviously has been in the garage of the seller for a long time. Indeed an amazing time capsule. It can be driven anywhere. Because of its high degree of authenticity it is eligible for any car show class.
