A woman on a ferry with her 1936 Chevrolet. Vintage photo undated, but from the license tag I assume the photo is from ca.1950, somewhere close to PA.
Vintage postcards showing ferries are common. Locations like Lake Norfolk AR, Port Arthur TX or Port Arkansas TX were once very popular. For local transportation, small ferries were often operated by local municipalities or small private companies. They served as vital links in transportation networks, connecting communities separated by water. They were especially common in rural and remote areas.
A similar 1936 Chevrolet we can see in an post about a Chevy in Australia.
A couple of ferries:
Washington State ferries
Staten Island ferry
