The 1955 Buick Century's wonderfully curved interior: This image shows the full beauty of the dashboard design.
Buick reintroduced the Century using a lighter Buick Special body and the and most powerful 322 cu in (5.3 L) "Nailhead" OHV V8 engine. Coupled was the Dynaflow automatic transmission. There was also a station wagon available. It was first advertised in the Buick-Berle show on TV, then in the '1955 The Honeymooners' show.
Buick produced 1955 both the four-door Buick Century Riviera and the Special Riviera as the first four-door hardtops. The Century was repositioned below the C-body Buick Super and priced lower. It featured four "VentiPorts" on the front fenders like the larger Roadmaster. It also had the "Panoramic" one-piece wrap around windshield (all GM cars of 1955).
The California Highway Patrol placed a large order for Century two-door sedans in 1955, a body style unavailable to the general public. The Century remained Buick's performance line, with engine power rising to 236 hp in 1955.
