The 1957 Oldsmobile Station Wagon is a full-size car. Olds produced cars named '88' from 1949 until 1999. The 88 series was an image leader for Olds in the early years. They were one of the best performing cars. That's because of its light weight and high-compression V8 'Rocket' engine. From 1950 on it was the division’s top-selling line.
History
Oldsmobile revived station wagons for the first time since 1950 with this Super 88 Fiesta. It is a four-door hardtop style. This year Olds named the basic 88 'Golden Rocket 88'. This was used from the 1956 Motorama show car. The only badging was an "88" underneath each taillight. The Super 88 was a member of the upscale mid-line series of cars. The engine, a Rocket V8 had an increased displacement of 371ci (cubic inches) and 277hp.
Although rare, Olds continued to offer three speed manual transmissions. Most of the cars came with the automatic transmission, as is this one. The company also re-worked the styling highlights. All the cars have also a distinct rear look: With a three-piece rear window styling on these 1957 Oldsmobiles 88. (Which somewhat limited rear view, however.) The manufacturer also added a safety deep-recessed steering wheel this year.

West Texas/Southern New Mexico 1957 Oldsmobile Station Wagon 88 Fiesta. It has been sitting for over 40 years. Has still the Olds Rocket Engine. The body is complete but does have some rust. Owner disassembled the upper tailgate to prevent more damage. That part is coming with the car. Seller has not tried turning the engine. He doesn't know if the engine is frozen. But the 1957 Station Wagon does roll for loading. The car has non-matching wire wheels on it. A set of original rims are also available.
Unfortunately the car is missing some parts. Nevertheless, the seller provides a clear New Mexico title in his name. It also has a 4 speed Hydramatic transmission. As we can see the engine bay is very original, with a single 4-barrel carburetor. The engine doesn't currently start however. Grill is original.
All exterior stainless steel trim, badges and emblems are in good shape. The interior panels are original, but the seat upholstery is not. It has been redone with a green, non-matching color. A minor flaw that can easily be fixed. Carpets and headliner are original. The dash is in original state, not cut. Trunk is solid, floor pans and trunk pan are in great condition. Undercarriage is not detailed, but not rusted through anywhere.
