The 1950 Oldsmobile 88 4Dr Sedan (named also ‘Eighty-Eight’) is a full-size car of Oldsmobile. It was  produced from 1949. From 1950 on it was the division’s top-selling line. Olds had introduced the '88' name in 1949. This name distinguished it from the 76 and 98 lines which were already existing. A car from the '98' productline is here. The 88 had great success on the market. The slogan "Make a Date with a Rocket 88" became a famous advertising slogan. A song named "Rocket 88" is sometimes even considered as the first rock and roll creation. Oldsmobile created the trunk-lid emblem for the 1950 model, then it adopted the rocket as its logo. Interesting to note that the '88' name remained in the Olds model line until the late 1990s. At a time when Oldsmobile itself neared the end of its existence.

History

The 88 series was also an image leader for Oldsmobile in the early years (1949–51). This series was one of the best performing automobiles: Its size was relatively small and the high-compression V8 'Rocket' engine gave it a good acceleration. Olds used the '88' model series name from 1949 to 1999, a fifty years time-span!

Olds did the following styling changes in 1950: Replacement of a two-piece windshield with a one-piece unit. It also offered a manual transmission (three-speed) with column shift. The car pictured here has the Hydramatic automatic transmission, however. Prices were affordable - finally the '88' models outsold the six-cylinder 76.

This is very original 1950 Oldsmobile 88 4Dr Sedan. It has 40090 miles it is a original survivor. Very few exist in this original condition: Interior, engine, transmission, trunk - highly original. Car runs good. Recently changed the transmission fluid and fluid in rear differential.
