The 1951 Oldsmobile 98 4dr is a full-size Oldsmobile model. The company manufactured cars with the '98' notation from 1940 until 1996. The name reflects a “Series 90” fitted with an 8-cylinder engine. A car from the lower '88' productline is here. These cars can be distinguished from other Olds models by a big chrome spear above the rear fender.

History

The 1951 Oldsmobile 98 repeated its 1948 precedent: Previewing some of next years styling cues for the 88. It was the first totally slab sided Oldsmobile and the first sedan with a bent (wraparound) rear window. Standard equipment included bumper guards, parking lamps and dome light. Also rubber floor mats, foam rubber seat cushions, chrome interior trim, lined luggage compartment and counterbalanced trunk lid. Deluxe 98 equipment included rear seat armrest, Deluxe electric clock, Deluxe steering wheel and horn button, special door trim and stainless steel wheel trim rings. Upholstery choices spanned nylon fabric, striped broadcloth or leather.

1951 Oldsmobile 98. Very original, great front clip. Unfortunately the chrome has deteriorated in the front mostly on one front bar. Good windshield. The 303 CID V8 engine may have been rebuilt at some point prior to current owner acquiring it. It does turn over, but the owner hasn't started it before the auction. Tires are flat, and the car has rust through in the floors and trunk. Doors have some rust as well, but not serious and something that often shows with cars in this shape. Welding skills required to fix it. A professional repair by a shop may be expansive.

This is a highly original car. Note the original, grey striped upholstery.
