History
In the model year 1940 Oldsmobile was the first car manufacturer to offer a fully automatic transmission. They called it the "Hydramatic". It features four forward speeds. It has a gas pedal and a brake—no clutch pedal. The gear selector is on the steering column. - Starting in 1941 Oldsmobile used a two digit model designation. The '60' model was in the lowest price field of Oldsmobile. One can distinguish '60' cars from others, higher priced model lines, because the have less chrome trim. Examples are chrom spears, badhes and chrom lines. The '60' cars had a 6 cylinder Olds engine ('inline-6'). Not a top-performer, they were extremely durable, long-lasting machines.
