A few words about the Oldsmobile history of these years: For 1951, the 88 was the entry-level for Oldsmobile. Consequently, after this year Oldsmobile offered all cars with the Rocket V8s engine. It was introduced in 1951 and was a more upscale Olds car with the new GM B-body. These cars had restyled rear body panels and a more luxurious interior. The chassis was slightly longer (120-inch). In 1952 the base Oldsmobile models had a 145 horsepower 303 cu in engine with two-barrel carburetor while the Super 88s had a more powerful 160 hp 303 with a new four-barrel carburetor. 1953 also was the 50 years anniversary of General Motors (GM).
