A well aged 1939 Oldsmobile 60 2dr sedan, painted in a faided green. It may be that this is still the original color.
History
The series '60' held the entry level position for Oldsmobile cars in the US in the year 1939. Oldsmobile designated this series 'F' until the year 1938. These cars had a 216.5 cu in (3.5L) Straight-Six engine. Olds made them only available with 6 cylinder engines (named 'Inline Six').
The company produced 1939 Oldsmobile 60 2dr Sedans as part of their model range. It also produced '70' and '80' models that used a different body named 'B'. - We can see the styling changes on the front compared to the following year in this Olds front woodie.
While 1939 Oldsmobile sedans are not really rare cars, many rotted away afer the last owner lost interest. Others were destroyed or rodded (and subsequently destroyed).
More Details
1939 Oldsmobiles delivered these automobiles with a so called "safety automatic transmission" back then. It was semi-automatic, using a clutch to get the car going - then shifted automatically. The famous 'Hydramatic' debuted the following year (1940).
The Series 60 cars were the most simple model range for Oldsmobiles in the United States. The manufacturer offered them from 1939 through the 1948 model year. Being a '60' model, then trim was used specifically for the low price level cars. All '60' type of cars were closely related to Chevrolet and Pontiac bodies.
Oldsmobile offered four body styles: a two-door sedan with a full rear seat, a four-door sedan which shared its roof line with the two-door sedan, a business coupe with no rear seat and a club coupe with two rear fold-away jump seats. The wheelbase was 115".
The engine was a 216CID 90 hp 'Inline Six'. In the following year there was an even bigger body style, named 'C' offered.
At the Auction
Note: Auction has ended!
The motor is the original 6 cylinder inline engine. (Olds inline engines are similar to engines described at Buick Inline Engine.) It ran last time in 1961. Cranking is possible, but the engine has not been tried to start. Probably just needs some cleaning, new spark plugs and cables. The engine compartment area is original and needs cleaning and paint. The interior is worn, but original:
The floors are solid, need cleaning and there is undercoating applied underneath.
As far as I can see all the parts are there. That is important, because trim parts and other interior parts are very hard to come by.
